In the forest trees will fall, they don’t care where the trail is and will sometimes fall on it. When they do it is hard to continue on the trail without walking around it and making a new path. Which over time kills more of the vegetation in the woods, so hiker’s are not supposed to walk around them. To make it still possible to hike the trail, workers and volunteers come out to clear the trees off the path.
They do it in many different ways, sometimes they cut them in half so you can walk through it.

Or they might cut just a chunk out of a tree to make a step, so you can walk over it.

If they haven’t had time to come and remove the tree, then you might have to just climb over the tree. Sometimes they are really big or sometimes they are smaller.

During the hurricane Helene last year there were lots of trees knocked over. The workers and volunteers are trying very hard to get the whole path cleared for hikers.
